  • 1- Description of the termite
2- Old construction: Preventive and curative action
    3- When constructing: Preventive action

  • 1- Description of the termite:

Termites are the only representatives of the isopteran order, which has 281 sorts and 2600 species.
Sometimes called white ants, they are social insects, living in hierarchical colonies that are organised in castes.
The workers and soldiers are blind and work round the clock.
A large colony can have several million members.
The queen can lay several thousand eggs per day.

To live, termites absolutely need dampness, as well as materials such as sand or earth. They essentially attack woods (cellulose), papers, cellulosic materials, and fabric.Termites eat cellulose, which also exists in plants and waste.
Termites can also attack rugs, carpets, plastics, light metals, and electrical cables.
Termites prefer staying in the confined areas of houses, such as basements, closet backs, bottoms of bathtubs. Termites can squeeze into narrow spaces.

2- Old construction: preventive and curative action

    Two solutions are possible:

The classical solution: The barrier treatment, to prevent termites from investing the building, during the life of the introduced insecticides.

The cure by barriers of the construction must include the following steps:
    • Curing the external grounds / Curing the internal grounds
    • Curing he perimeter and internal walls
    • Curing the partitions and linings
    • Treatments of wood structures up to higher level of infestation
    • Treatment of joinery and other wood, non-timber structure up to the superior level of infestation
    • Traitement des menuiseries et autres bois, hors bois de structure, jusqu’au niveau supérieur à l’infestation
This option will be preferred in case of major risks of degradation of the building components, or during other rehabilitation work that may disturb the development of a bait system.

This technique can be used either for a preventive action or curative action. See the principle of cure by barrier.

See the principle of cure by barrier

The innovative solution: The bait treatment will eliminate the termite colony to its source and allow the detection, for disposal of any new infestation.

This process respects the environment, and has no inconvenience, (no risk to humans and environment, no harm to the habitat).
The implementation of this system involves an approach with several stages:

    • Installation / Interception.
    • Detection
    • Disposal
    • Monitoring
    • Maintenance
This technique can be used for a sensor, or for a curative action.

A preliminary study will be conducted to validate the choice of the most appropriate technique or even a mixed action barriers / traps. Back on the Top Top

3- During the construction: preventive action

Did you know that since 1st November 2007, all new buildings must be equipped with an anti-termite system of physical or physico-chemical type? (See Decree anti-termite)

For this, 2 techniques are recognized:

The physical barrier: This is a manufactured product that does not contain biocidal product, and whose resistance to the invasion by termites is given by physical properties.

More and more owners wish to participate in choosing the protection against termites for their future home. They choose a barrier WITHOUT PESTICIDES, which provides effective protection against termites, and is as durable as the house they build.

The Boissûr Company uses the anti-termite system Termimesh that meets these criteria. (See Accreditation Termimesh)

Termimesh is a protection system for new construction, complying with regulations and respecting the environment. A real physical barrier without pesticides, it protects the sensitive areas of your home from termites (edges of tiles, ducts and pipes…)

Termimesh is the world leader in physical barriers to termites.

    Termimesh uses two main components:
    • The mesh: Canvas wire in stainless steel, real "Screen to termites." A flexible, non-degradable material, and not traversed by the termites.
    • The parge: Speedy mortar-glue that is a real physical barrier. Adheres to concrete, bricks, wood, metal…
It has a technical advice CSTB (implies controls by the manufacturer).

    The components are certified CTB-P+
Only accredited specialists in the fight against termites develop the Terminesh solution.
It contains no pesticide. It is non-toxic to humans and does not pollute the soil.
The anti-termite does not deteriorate in the long time; it is designed to last as long as the building it protects. Recyclable in the event of deconstruction, Termimesh has the HQE (HQE: High Environmental Quality).

The physico-chemical barrier: It is a manufactured product composed of a physical medium, (film or other materials) in or on which was introduced one or more substance(s) biocide(s).
Any such substances shall meet the requirements of existing regulations and particularly that of the Directive 98 / 8.

The company BOISSUR uses Termifilm that meets these criteria. (See Training Certificate Termifilm)

Termifilm is a polyethylene film of high resistance, which is used as those used traditionally in building. The termicide is grafted onto a polymer, and that makes it non washable, thus it does not go into the soil.

    • Double anti-termite action: Repulsive and lethal (termites die after a few minutes of contact)

    • Durable: Operational for over 20 years: that is the result of aging tests to the French weather, made in the laboratories of the manufacturer CECIL.
